All joints should be caulked using a high quality color-matched
sealant such as that supplied, on request by GRAHAM FRP Composites or its
distributors. Sealants should be non-yellowing, low in dirt pick- up,
resistant to ultra-violet degradation, non-hardening and of low modulus.
Most silicones, urethanes and polysulphides are suitable. Consult caulking
manufacturer's literature or a technical sales representative before
installation. A minimum joint gap should be 1/4" (6.4 mm) between
panels up to 12 ft (3.7 m) in length. Most caulking manufacturers
recommend a joint width to sealant depth ratio of 2:1 (minimum).
For optimum results, it is recommended that caulking be carried out
by a recognized caulking contractor. Every precaution should be taken to
protect the stone surface of GRANEX® from excess caulking material, to
leave finished work in neat, clean condition with no evidence of
spillovers onto adjacent surfaces.
An EPDM type gasket is also available in lieu of a caulked joint.
Gaskets come in 3 different profiles and in several colors to match most
of the standard aggregates.
