GRANEX® may be mounted as a complete exterior wall or as an
infill panel on supporting structures of steel or wood. Vertical framing
members of furring strips should be placed 16" (400 mm) or maximum 24"
(600 mm) on center. All vertical and horizontal joints must be supported
by a framing member. In curtain wall designs, horizontal rails will be
required with spacing dictated by wind load factors. A joint gap of no
less than 1/4" (6.4 mm) must be maintained between all panels.
Steel framing must have a galvanized finish or equivalent
rust-resistant protective finish. For a single story building, minimum
gauge is 18. For multiple story construction, consult local building
codes. Wood framing should be pressure-treated lumber for exterior use or
equivalent. For optimum results, the bond breaker/thermal tape recommended
for steel framing should also be used with wood framing.
A closed cell PVC self adhesive tape should be applied to the
building substrate along all stud lines, directly under the GRANEX®
panels. This tape should be 12#/ft 3.3/16" thick and 1.5" wide.
GRANEX® attachment screws must be installed using a power tool
equipped with a variable torque slip clutch. The amount of torque used to
install these screws must be just enough to drive the screw into the stud.
The use of excessive torque can compress the foam tape and lead to
unwanted appearance defects and periodic formation of condensation along
stud lines. To protect against the possible formation of condensation in
the wall cavity, it is strongly recommended that a minimum 1" (25 mm)
air space be maintained immediately behind the GRANEX® panel.
Allowance to be made for the cavity to drain to the exterior at the bottom
of the wall system.
Care should be taken when hoisting GRANEX® panels into place so
that slings, ropes or wires are not allowed to damage panel edges. On-site
conditions will dictate the type of hoisting equipment required.
