In addition to a wide selection of colors, CHEMCLAD® panels can be furnished as translucent to provide soft diffused light transmission. They are available in virtually clear or in various translucent colors for a range of light transmissions. The combination of CHEMCLAD® opaque and light transmitting panels produce a dramatic improvement in work conditions as well as reducing energy bills.

For industrial facilities with non-corrosive conditions, CHEMCLAD® translucent panels can be used in conjunction with metal panels.

An important benefit of FRP panels is the ability to let natural light into buildings through the panels. CHEMCLAD® translucent panels allow light transmission of 25% to 85% as measured in accordance with ASTM 1494.

The amount of light transmission allowed will vary according to panel color, thickness, and by the laminate construction. For example, a translucent clear Series S80 (8 oz. nominal weight) panel has a much higher light transmission value then a translucent clear Series C160 (16 oz. nominal weight). CHEMCLAD® opaque panels allow a small amount of light passage through the materials. This light transmission does not exceed 5%.

For general purpose applications, some CHEMCLAD® profiles are offered in an orthophthalic polyester resin. Although better than coated metals, the chemical resistance for the ortho polyester is much less than isopolyester. The vinyl ester resin has better strength retention properties at elevated temperatures than polyester resins and is recommended for higher temperature conditions. The weathering characteristics of vinyl ester are not as good as polyester.
